Ordinary, extraordinary I love primary and bright colours. The secret to a good painting is not perhaps the colour you use, but more the tone you apply the colour. Using painted newspaper to set-up the big shapes I used watercolour to add tone to the image and make the ice in the glass stand out.Continue reading “Tumbler”

Top of the morning to you
My Nan loved feeding Robins. She used to have one come to the door of her cottage, wait he would wait in the morning, in the doorstep, for the crumbs from her toast. Until one morning when he impatiently flew into the kitchen. From that point on they would have their morning chats before NanContinue reading “Top of the morning to you”
Plenty of room to scooter
Cabin was the inspiration for this post. Our favourite holiday destination in Wales has a wonderfully steep hill. I have a lovely memory of Sam trundling down it on his scooter. Probably to the dissatisfaction of the local residents. And maybe why the No Scooters notice appeared the following year!
Basil, Lettuce and Tomoto
I’m very late with planting seeds this year… I’m usually very organised and will have a window sill full of tiny seedlings, poking their little leaves above the soil. But this year! haven’t even started. Even though I know supermarkets in England are running out of fresh salad! Kids today…!
Covid has made headphones an office necessity but while my generation were about making things smaller. Today’s youth want bigger more ridiculous looking headphones. Our headphones became inner ear pieces, our phones turned from bricks to small tablets. Perhaps it’s a need to look cool on zoom, or to listen to swearing in a gameContinue reading “Kids today…!”
Geometric
This was a prompt for from the Reading art club on instagram. I’m getting excited by abstract art, but I feel I haven’t quite pulled this one off. That said, I found the geometric art quite difficult to look at and that is very evident in this piece!
Yearly portrait time
I think I look quite serious in this portrait. I never really do backgrounds in my portraits. Choosing the background is important, to help give meanings. I might use this as a piece for a larger finished painting. To be continued…
Eat cone…!
I remember one car journey to Cornwall especially well. The M4 motorway was having its yearly resurfacing in the middle of the school holidays. We had been driving forever with the caravan on the back of the car and the road was narrowing to 2 lanes, from 3. Dad was driving and was in theContinue reading “Eat cone…!”
