Splashing Stones

One of my early influences as an artist was a water-colourist called Neil Meacher. Neil painted mainly seascapes with a cubist style. But more importantly he used sketch books to develop his ideas. Neils work is always primary colours and is developed in layer much like the printing processes he studied in his early career.TheContinue reading “Splashing Stones”

Seafood on the sea shore

I’m going back in time to 2018. We eat out a lot on holiday. We are willing to risk the attacks of seagulls to enjoy a roll on sand, maybe I should rephrase! This is Widemouth Beach where we found a hut selling baguettes. I’ve included the original sketchbook image. I can see ways toContinue reading “Seafood on the sea shore”

Fisherman’s Cafe, Poole

Just round the corner from our Poole accommodation was the Fisherman’s Cafe. A down to earth breakfast hang-out. From the outside you would probably walk past the Fisherman’s Cafe. It was small and crowded. But the breakfasts were amazing. Traditional full English, sausages in big baps, eggs and black pudding. And a jolly menu thatContinue reading “Fisherman’s Cafe, Poole”

Top of the morning to you

My Nan loved feeding Robins. She used to have one come to the door of her cottage, wait he would wait in the morning, in the doorstep, for the crumbs from her toast. Until one morning when he impatiently flew into the kitchen. From that point on they would have their morning chats before NanContinue reading “Top of the morning to you”

Plenty of room to scooter

Cabin was the inspiration for this post. Our favourite holiday destination in Wales has a wonderfully steep hill. I have a lovely memory of Sam trundling down it on his scooter. Probably to the dissatisfaction of the local residents. And maybe why the No Scooters notice appeared the following year!

My old piano

I’ve decided to use only newspaper as my collage material this week – It has a wonderfully graphic quality to it. I can’t resist using a dog in some of my images, this is a test that I might do as a finished piece. I desperately wanted to use the Soul Train in the pianoContinue reading “My old piano”

Oh to be a child again

Would you be a child again? This post and image is inspired from the Doodlewash prompt – Playground. When I was young, a very long time ago, playgrounds were really quite boring. We had tall slides, swings and roundabouts. All painted in lead based paints, peeling from the sun. We had to imagine – fun.Continue reading “Oh to be a child again”

Congratulations Dawn!

‘Twenty-five yeas that’s longer than I have been alive,’ or words to that effect, become a common theme as you grow older. I have featured Dawn in a few cartoons in the past few years. A brilliant character. Says what she means. Has a laugh but with an intense serious side. The cartoon started withContinue reading “Congratulations Dawn!”
